Intro Mighty Mites Tryout

*** PLEASE NOTE OUR SEPTEMBER 20th TRYOUT WILL BE LOOKING FOR GIRLS TO JOIN OUR INTRO MIGHTY MITES CLASS ON TUES/THUR FROM 12:30-2:30 PM (OUR OTHER CLASSES ARE CURRENTLY FULL) ***

Mighty Mites is a Talent Identification Program for girls aged 3.5 – 6 years in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (often referred to as WAG). There are 2 groupings of Mighty Mites:
  • Intro- born in 2020 – (Tues/Thur 9:45-11:45)  &  (Tues/Thurs 12:30-2:30)
  • Advanced- born in 2019 – (Mon/Wed 12:30-3:00)
There are four events in which your daughter will begin her gymnastics education—Vault, Bars, Beam, and Floor. In this fundamental learning stage, our Mighty Mites will be taught in the areas of flexibility, strength, coordination, balance, agility, body awareness, alignment, and basic body positioning/shaping. CGC’s Women’s Artistic Program is a high-performance program that focuses on producing gymnasts for the Elite level of gymnastics (National, International and World class). Due to this directive, CGC seeks out girls that have the right attributes to conquer the physical and mental demands of the sport, as well as the commitment and drive to reach the top levels. If selected, your daughter will be in the first assessment level of our program, which may then lead to the Pre-Developmental Program in the future. In our tryout we are observing to see if they demonstrate certain qualities or physical attributes. A selection for Mighty Mites does not guarantee an indefinite position in the pre-competitive system, only the chance for us to work with her to teach and develop strong foundations and build upon their physical literacy.  Our structured classes teach the girls to be disciplined, but are also designed to be fun, enjoyable, and further their love of the sport. Regardless of a possible advancement in our program, the tools with which they master here will help them excel in any athletic endeavour ahead. Gymnastics is the basis of all sports.
What We Look For:
First and foremost, the girls must love gymnastics. If your daughter is doing cartwheels in the living room, flipping on your furniture, and making her own gym out of every surface in your house, down the isles of the supermarket and out in the yard, that's indicative of a child who has some innate passion for gymnastics. They are self teaching by mirroring what they have seen somewhere else and their desire to flip or be upside down is natural. Some children cannot tolerate being upside down, and consequently would struggle in this program. Little ones, who prefer to constantly be cartwheeling, are kids we would consider to be good candidates for the Mighty Mite program! Below is a list of characteristics and attributes that we look for when selecting girls for the program. Obviously we are not looking for them to have every single attribute….. that would be golden, but we do look for the girls that have as many as possible!
• Above average strength and flexibility
• A high level of coordination and balance
• Solid, athletic body type
• Good posture and alignment
• Fast Twitch muscle with speed and explosiveness
• Fearlessness and competitiveness
• Psychological maturity
• Ability to listen carefully, follow directions, apply and retain corrections
• Mental and physical toughness.
• Out-going and confident personality
• Communication skills
• A willingness to participate, try new things
• Expressed desire to be a gymnast
